Not Quite Rudolf The Red Nosed Reindeer………..

…….more like IT’S RED NOSE DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Comic Relief is an operating British charity, founded in 1985 by the comedy scriptwriter Richard Curtis and comedian Lenny Henry in response to famine in Ethiopia. The highlight of Comic Relief’s appeal is Red Nose Day, a biennial telethon held in March. I remember the very first one, sitting on a bus going to work, feeling very embarrassed while wearing my nose. I’ve also dressed in a Star Trek uniform and accosted complete strangers in Cardiff while rattling collecting tins under their noses. And back in 1997 Delia Smith did ‘Delia’s Red Nose Collection’, a collection of 12 recipes with an accompanying booklet to help raise funds for this worthy cause. I’ve dusted off my copy and these mini muffins just seem to tick all the boxes for something to scoff while watching this years’ telemarathon. If you make ’em, then please donate something to this years collection. If you don’t…….then just donate something anyway. xxx

Chocolate Drop Mini-Muffins With Red Noses

  1. 150g plain flour
  2. 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  3. 1 level dessertspoon baking powder
  4. 0.25tsp salt
  5. 1 large egg, beaten
  6. 40g caster sugar
  7. 120ml milk
  8. 50g butter, melted
  9. 50g plain chocolate drops
  10. another 65g plain chocolate drops
  11. 24 glace cherries
  12. icing sugar, sifted

12 hole mini-muffin tins x 2 and oven preheated to 200c/400f/gas mark 6

Sift the flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt into a large bowl. Mix the egg, sugar, milk and melted butter together and then quickly mix it with the dry ingredients. DON’T beat, or stir – it should look lumpy. Finally, fold in the 50g of chocolate chips. Place one heaped tsp into each muffin cup and bake for 10 minutes. Leave in the muffin tray for and extra 5 after they’ve come out and then transfer to a wire rack to cool. Once they are cool, melt the other 65g of chocolate chips in a small glass bowl over a barely simmering pan of water and spoon a little over each muffin and place a glace cherry on top so that they have their own little red nose for the day as well 😀

Ooops, just remembered that you’re supposed to dust them with icing sugar as well. I didn’t, but them still tasted pretty darned good anyway.
